2 operating models of EMS delivery

EMS stands for Emergency Medical Services and these services provide out-of-hospital acute medical care and transportation to those in need. Different types of these systems exist depending upon the demographics like population density, topography and other such conditions. They are regulated by the government of USA but there are of its two basic operating models. These are as follows:-

Publicly operated

In the publicly operated models of this system, the system is operated directly by the municipality that it services. It is funded by service fees and property taxes. The staff members consist of volunteers who are trained to work and are funded mostly by donations. It aims to provide the ambulance services to the people living in the areas nearby.

Private operated

There are ambulance services that operate on a for profit basis. It has been existing in US since long. The services operate either on a fee-for-service basis to the patient, or by means of a contract with the local municipalities. As a result, the performance is guaranteed based upon the issues such as staffing, skill sets, resources available, and response times.

The ambulance services provide many types of medical needs and care for the patients while transporting them from one place to another. They come equipped with the major components like stretchers, medical kits and other essentials required for a patient of some acute disease. Many times, full escort system comes with the patient in the ambulance when the patient may not be in a situation of emergency but requires certain medical care while traveling.
